Unprecedented success of RTVE and Adsmedia in broadcasting the 2008 Beijing Olympics via mobile.

More than 380,000 users accessed the WAP of the Olympic Games covered by RTVE.

The mobile broadcasting from the WAP portal of Adsmedia and RTVE, created specifically for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, has generated during the 16 days of the event, 386,000 users and a total of 2.1 million visits in the Movistar, Vodafone, Orange portals and off portal of RTVE.

Through the WAP portal, the Olympic Games became the most watched sporting event in Spain thanks to streaming or live broadcasting via mobile, which consisted of three video signals. In other words, more than one thousand hours of broadcasting distributed between the off-portal and the three operators in order to cover the connections of TVE1 and TVE 2. 

The contents that generated the most downloads were the tennis final with Rafa Nadal and the Basketball final with the Spanish team, which obtained more than 20,000 live connections and over 50,000 downloaded videos. 

Users were able to access other Olympic Games contents from their phones, such as the latest news and videos, medal table, agenda and times of the competitions, information about the Olympic athletes, blogs, news alerts and downloads of games, tones and images.  .

It is worth highlighting that for the first time, and thanks to advertising, services such as “Video on Demand” with more than 200,000 videos, 90,000 alerts and sponsored games were provided free of charge. In addition, 3.9 million advertising banners were served with an average click through rate of 2.7%, reaching 5% in some campaigns, including those of Mapfre, Toyota, San Miguel, Sanitas, Cola Cao, Nestlé and Lechera Asturiana.

This new channel has contributed to the record audience obtained by RTVE in the broadcasting of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
